Barn and Backside Van Tour during Derby Week of Churchill Downs Join us for some Derby contender spotting! There’s not a more exciting time to visit the ‘backside’ of the racetrack than the week leading up to Derby. Experience the hustle and bustle firsthand in this exclusive van & walking tour. Visitors will take a ride to the other side of the track into the barn area.As you walk through the barn area, look for the yellow saddlecloths and spot a Derby winner in the making! Do not forget your camera (flashes must be turned off) because there will be many opportunities for photo-ops.This tour offers great insights about the workings of the racetrack, care and attention to the horses and the history of this world famous track.

This is a great tour for horse lovers, but please note: guests will not be able to touch the animals or enter the shed rows. Tour guides, when possible, will point out the barns where the Derby contenders are housed in preparation for the big race. Seats are limited since the group is transported to the backside in a van. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. Tours will depart from out front of the Kentucky Derby Museum by the Barbaro statue.

Guests will then be able to walk the shed rows of our iconic stallion barns which have been home to a world-renowned roster and is home to current stallions War Front, Blame, and Orb, just to name a few. Lastly, the tour will end in our cemetery boasting over 20 champions including the legendary Secretariat. We do our best to let fans see our current champions.
